Vishnu Ghat

Vishnu Ghat is one of the important Ghats along the Ganga River in Haridwar. Named after Lord Vishnu, it is believed to be the same place where Lord Vishnu bathed. Legend states that a dip in the holy water of this ghat washes away all the sins. Owing to the immense faith in Lord Vishnu by the people of Haridwar, devotees visit this land to take a dip in the ghat.

Vishnu ghat is not much crowded like the Har Ki Puari ghat so one can take a dip with complete peace. The flow of the river is fast and it is narrow. The actual river flows east of the Vishnu ghat but the river has been diverted by the government so that it is safer for people to bathe during religious events. There are steps on both the banks leading to the river where you can take a dip. There is an iron barrier which makes sure that people do not get swept away by the flow of river. There are many temples, hotels & restaurants, near by the ghat.

Places to Visit in Haridwar

Haridwar is an ancient city and important Hindu pilgrimage site in North India's Uttarakhand state, where the River Ganges exits the Himalayan foothills. The largest of several sacred ghats (bathing steps), Har Ki Pauri hosts a nightly Ganga Aarti (river-worshipping ceremony) in which tiny flickering lamps are floated off the steps. Worshipers fill the city during major festivals including the annual Kanwar Mela.
