Gangotri-Gaumukh Tapovan trek is a popular trek in Uttarakhand state of India. Located at the base of the Gangotri glacier, Gaumukh also known as Cow's snout is a source of holy river Ganga. On the other hand, Tapovan is located above the Gangotri glacier. This trek will pass traveller through glaciers. Therefore, it is certainly one of the great treks best meant for adventure enthusiasts from across the globe. This trail is rated as moderate and therefore can be undertaken by mountaineers and non-mountaineers with good state-of-health.

At trekking in India, we arrange an exclusive Gangotri-Gaumukh Tapovan Trekking tour of eleven days for trekking lovers. You will start your journey from Gangotri and end here. You will pass through many beautiful glaciers like Gangotri Glacier, Meru Glacier and Kirti Bamak Glacier while trekking on this trek. Also, you will witness the beautiful views of some of the leading peaks like Mt. Shivling Peak, Gangotri group of Peak, and Kedardome Peak. This trek will give you a chance to visit Bhojwassa from where you can enjoy the panoramic view of Bhagirathi group of peaks. You will also get an opportunity to closely view Tapovan, a beautiful high altitude meadow. You can see Blue Mountain goats (Bharal in local language) on the mountain ridges on this trail.

Best time to trek Gaumukh would be from Mid April to June and then again from September to early November. Gangotri remains closed from late November to March so a visit in these months is not possible at all. The risk of rain would make the trek and journey tough to execute in July and August. This is also the time when it gets a little crowded in Gangotri with ongoing Kanwar Yatra. Hence it only leaves the months of spring (April), summer (May and June) and autumn (October) to trek to Gaumukh.
