Paradise Beach, Pondicherry

Paradise Beach is located exactly at the place where River Chunnambar joins Bay of Bengal. The beach is originally called Chunnambar Beach, but people rarely call it by its original name. Visitors named it Paradise Beach as the beautiful and pristine beach gives an impression that you have arrived at the paradise!

The beautiful sandy beach can be reached only by boat. You can hire a boat ride from Chunnambar Boat House that is located at 7 km from the main town of Pondicherry. A short 10-15 minutes ride on a motor boat will get you to this paradise on earth. As you get out of the boat and step on the sandy beach, you will be welcomed by coconut and palm garden. It is a picturesque moment when you can find several coconut trees growing on the sand of the beach, along with several other small plants.

After you walk a little ahead of the coconut garden, you will reach the sandy beach of Paradise Beach. This serene beach has gentle waves and shallow waters. That makes the beach a very popular destination among visitors of all ages. The beach itself does not have any trees that can provide shelter to visitors. A few thatched roof shelter are built that provide relief against the harsh sun during summers. Some of the shelters are occupied by street vendors who provide certain refreshments at exorbitant prices.

The beach narrows down at the meeting point of Chunnambar River and Bay of Bengal. The water current of the river is not high at the meeting point but at times, it is very deep and hence not advisable to get into the river water.

Paradise Beach is also called as its translation to French as Plage Paradiso. Paradise beach is a great place to get a view of the sunrise if you reach early in the morning. After sunrise, you can spend hours just sitting on the beach and enjoying the gentle waves. The other side of the beach, you can just sit and enjoy the backwaters of River Chunnambar.
