Soniji Ki Nasiyan Ajmer

Soniji Ki Nasiyan Ajmer is located in Prithviraj Marg in Ajmer, Rajasthan. It is easily accessible from all places and thus is a popular tourist attraction. This temple is the most beautiful after the Jain temples of Ranakpur and Mt. Abu. The splendid design, architecture and beauty of these buildings over shine even the finest of Mughal architecture.

The temple was built in 1864 and was completed after even more than 30 years in 1895. It is dedicated to the first Jain Teerthankara, Shri Rishavadeva Soniji Ki Nasiyan Ajmer.

The temple is a double storey building and has a huge hall in the top level. This hall has large wooden statues that depict Jain mythology. The artifacts here show the ancient world in a Jain perspective. There is also a museum attached to the Soniji Ki Nasiyan Ajmer.

The first floor is called the ‘Swarna Nagari’ and houses some of the most exclusive art and architecture work all in the traditional Jain style. The most beautiful attraction here is the depiction of panorama from a Jainism view where you will see gold plated replicas of all Jain temples of the country. It is said that around 1000 kg gold was used in this making process. There are also the replicas and models of the ancient cities of Ayodhya and Prayag Soniji Ki Nasiyan Ajmer.

History

The construction of the temple was started in the year 1964 and it was finally opened for the disciples with the installation of the image of ‘Agnidev’ in the Sanctum Sanctorum on 26 May 1865. The temple is named Siddhkoot Chaitalya. It was built by Rai Bahadur Seth Moolchand and Nemichand Soni, Jain Businessmen from Soniji Ki Nasiyan Ajmer , and thus is also known as ‘Nasiyan of Seth Moolchand Soni’.

It is also known as ‘Red Temple’ as is it made of red stone. In 1895 A.D, the Svarna Nagri was added to the temple and it popularly began to be called as the ‘Sone ka mandir’. This Svarna Nagri, known as ‘City of Gold’, exhibits few gold-plated wooden figures drawing reference to the Jain tradition. This is the primary chamber of the Soniji Ki Nasiyan Ajmer.

Architecture

Soniji Ki Nasiyan Ajmer It depicts Panch Kalyanak – the five stages in the life of Lord Adinath, through its models and statues. These stages are Garbha Kalyanak (Conception), Keval Jnan Kalyanak (Omniscience), Janma Kalyanak (Birth), Tap Kalyanak (Renunciation), and Moksha Kalyanak. The entire formation is covered with gold leaf and is made according to the descriptions given in Adi Purana that is written by His Holiness Shri Jina Sen Acharya.

The chamber is artistically adorned by gold and silver work and precious stones. Further, this temple is partitioned into two parts, where one is the worship area involving the symbol of Lord Adinath and the second is the museum, both parts still owned by the Sony family of Ajmer.
