History of Mahansar fort
Mahansar Fort, located in the Shekhawati region of Rajasthan, is a beautiful example of Shekhawat Rajput heritage and art. It was founded in 1768 AD by Thakur Nahar Singh, the second son of Thakur Nawal Singh of Nawalgarh, making Mahansar an independent Thikana (fiefdom) within the Jaipur State.
The fort served as the center of the Mahansar Thikana, which was ruled by the Shekhawat Rajputs. The Thakurs of Mahansar held significant judicial power and were granted the hereditary title of Rajshree and Sonanaresh.
Today, the fort’s architecture, ornate frescoes, and royal ambiance are preserved, with a portion of it converted into the Narain Niwas Castle, a heritage hotel, managed by the descendants of the founding family, allowing visitors to experience its regal history.
