Kirti Stambh / Tower Of Fame


The Kirti Stambha is a one of the lovely tourist attractions of Chittorgarh. Housed inside the massive Chittorgarh Fort, this 12th century tower stands as a monument to Adinathji, the 1st Jain Teerthankar.

It is decorated with the naked figures of the Digambars, and reflects the cultural beliefs of the Digambars comprehensively. There are seven storeys in the tower, and a narrow and steep staircase leads to the top from where views of the Chittorgarh environs can be taken in and is one of the best places to visit in Chittorgarh.

Kirti Stambh History
Built-in the 12th century by Rana Kumbha to commemorate his victory against Khilji. Tower of Fame is 30 feet wide at the base and narrow at the top to 15 feet.
Famous for the intricate carvings of Digambar, this seven-storied tower has a beautiful Adinatha statue on the second floor. One can watch speechless scenic views of Chittorgarh on moving up to the top floor.
Kirti Stambh is older than another tower in the same fort, known as the Vijay Stambha (Tower of Victory).

The first was in 1303 when the Sultan of Delhi, Ala-ud-din Khilji, who was enamoured by Queen Padmini, launched an attack to abduct her. More than two centuries later, in 1533, it was Bahadur Shah, the Sultan of Gujarat, who caused immense destruction. Four decades later, in 1568, Mughal Emperor Akbar attacked and seized the fort. It was finally in 1616, under the rule of Mughal Emperor Jahangir that the fort was returned to the Rajputs.
