The park is roughly 2 kilometres away from the Tura Peak that lies in the Western Region of the state and it is one of the best National Parks in Meghalaya. The park is home to a few red pandas, rare birds, wild elephants and rare orchids. It is also believed by the locals that the park is the home to Mande Burung aka the Jungle man or the ape-man. Some have even reported seeing one around the Nokrek Village. So, here is an ultimate travel guide to Nokrek National Park, Meghalaya.

The entire Biosphere Reserve is hilly. The rock is mainly gneisses, granulites, migmatites, amphibolites and banded iron formation, intruded by basis and ultra-basic bodies. There is a vast range of plants found in the park. A virgin canopy of thick, tall and lush green forests cover Nokrek national park.

The area is noted for its wild varieties of citrus fruits that provide a gene-pool for commercially produced citrus. A thick canopy of lush green forest cover provides habitats for several insects and allows sustainability for the food chain.

The park is home to many species of birds, animals, reptiles and amphibians. This park is inhabited by numerous animals, including the red-panda, Asian elephant, tiger, marbled cat, stump tailed macaque, Hoolock Gibbons, Capped Langur, Clouded Leopard, Leopard Cat, Fishing-Cat, Golden Cat, Pangolin, Wild Buffalo, Python, pig-tailed macaque and seven species of primates.

Many species of birds can also be spotted here and the national park is considered to be an important bird area and an ideal spot for bird watchers. All important rivers and streams of the Garo Hills region rise from the Nokrek Range, of which the river Simsang, known as Someshwari when it emerges into Bangladesh at Baghmara, is the most prominent.

Memang Narang (mother of germoplasm), also known as Citrus Indici, was discovered in the Nokrek National Park. The most popular places to visit in the national park are the Nokrek Peak and Rongbang Dare Waterfalls.
Napak Lake and Siju Cave, located near the Simsang River Game Reserve, are also worth visiting. The Siju Caves can be measured in miles and they are filled with water.
