Gurudongmar Tourism

Gurudongmar Lake is one of the highest lakes in the world and in India, located at an altitude of 5,430 m (17,800 ft), in the Indian state of Sikkim. It is considered sacred by Buddhists, Sikhs and Hindus. The lake is named after Guru Padmasambhava—also known as Guru Rinpoche—founder of Tibetan Buddhism, who visited in the 8th century.

What To Do And See
Chopta Valley is a combined tour that comes with Gurudongmar Lake. Then around the lake there is another spiritual attraction for the peace seekers - Sarva Dharma Sthala, which is popularly called as the temple for all religions. In just about 9 km of distance, the Tso Lhamu Lake which is famous for being the source for the Teesta River can also be explored to gather the extended charm amidst the nature. The other places that can be visited along with the trip to Gurudongmar lake is Lachen village and Thangu village that are just 3-4 hours drive away.

Best Time To Visit
The months from April - June are considered to be the best time to visit this place. The weather is quite pleasant and the place remains easily accessible for the tourists during this time. It might get a bit cold from November - Jan so sufficiently equip yourself with warm clothes so as to witness partially frozen lake in cold weather.
