The minaret forms a part of the Qutab complex, a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rajasthantourplanner.com\/Delhi-Tour-Planner\/Delhi-Monuments\/index.html\">UNESCO World Heritage Site<\/a> in the Mehrauli area of Delhi, India.Qutub Minar is a 73-metre (239.5 feet) tall tapering tower of five storeys, with a 14.3 metres (47 feet) base diameter, reducing to 2.7 metres (9 feet) at the top of the peak.It contains a spiral staircase of 379 steps.Its design is thought to have been based on the Minaret of Jam, in western Afghanistan.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone  wp-image-4807 lazyload\" data-src=\"http:\/\/www.rajasthantourplanner.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/Qutub_Minar_in_the_monsoons_20170908115259-e1530099170149.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"531\" height=\"356\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml;base64,PHN2ZyB3aWR0aD0iMSIgaGVpZ2h0PSIxIiB4bWxucz0iaHR0cDovL3d3dy53My5vcmcvMjAwMC9zdmciPjwvc3ZnPg==\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 531px; --smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 531\/356;\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Qutab-Ud-Din-Aibak, founder of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rajasthantourplanner.com\/Delhi-Tour-Planner\/Delhi-Monuments\/index.html\">Delhi<\/a> Sultanate, started construction of the Qutub Minar&#8217;s first storey around 1192. In 1220, Aibak&#8217;s successor and son-in-law Iltutmish completed a further three storeys. In 1369, a lightning strike destroyed the top storey. Firoz Shah Tughlaq replaced the damaged storey, and added one more.
