According to one tale, the lake was constructed by the Gods as a refuge from their adversary, the Bashkali demon. Another story revolves around the romantic saga of the sage Rakshiya Balam. Legend has it that a king promised his daughter’s hand in marriage to anyone who could excavate a lake using only their nails overnight. Rakshiya Balam, smitten with the king’s daughter, completed the daunting task, hence earning the name Nakki Lake (Nakh meaning nails).

Best Time to Visit Mount Abu

The best time to visit Mount Abu is during the winter season, from October to February. During these months, the weather is pleasantly cool and dry, with temperatures ranging from a comfortable 15°C to 30°C. This period is ideal for sightseeing, trekking, and exploring the various attractions without the discomfort of heat or rain.

The monsoon season, from July to September, also offers a unique experience. The landscape becomes lush and green, with mist and occasional showers creating a romantic and serene atmosphere.

The summer months, from March to June, are hot, with temperatures reaching up to 36°C, but it remains a popular destination for those seeking a cooler alternative to the scorching heat in the plains of Rajasthan.

Nakki Lake is located in the heart of Mount Abu, making it easily accessible from anywhere in the town.

By Air: The nearest airport is Udaipur’s Maharana Pratap Airport (Dabok), approximately 176 km away. From the airport, you can hire a taxi or take a bus to Mount Abu.

By Train: The nearest railway station is Abu Road, about 28 km from Mount Abu. Taxis and local buses are readily available from the station to take you directly to Mount Abu.

By Road: Mount Abu is well-connected by road to major cities in Rajasthan and Gujarat. You can reach the town by private car, taxi, or state and private buses. Once you are in Mount Abu, Nakki Lake is about 1 km from the central bus stand, easily reachable on foot or by a short taxi ride.
