Trivandrum

Trivandrum is a town both ancient and modern, set at the most southerly point of India on low rolling hills. The Indian space project began here amid temples and palaces from centuries ago, science and technology flourish alongside the discovery of massive treasure at Sree Padmanabhaswami Temple………it is possible to visit the temple but all must adhere to the dress code.

Kanyamumari was the Home of the Rajas of Travancore until the 18th century, the Padmanabhapuram Palace is typical Keralan architecture built entirely of wood. A 30ft wall was built round the 7 acre palace complex to prevent Tipu Sultan from overthrowing it. It is well worth a guided tour, the ornate carvings, sculptures, Keralan brass oil lamps and furnishing from as far away as China are fascinating.

Napier Museum and Sree Chithra art gallery are in the heart of the city, the museum is an eclectic mix of architectural styles that manage to complement each other. Bothe the gallery and museum house some of the best exhibits in Kerala.

Eighty plus animals inhabit Trivandrum Zoo which is laid out in natural enclosures good for animnals and visitors. As well as a recreational facility, serious conservation work goes on here to conserve and promote health in many endangered species.
