JAGMANDIR PALACE, UDAIPUR
|
|
The
first island palace of Lake Pichola, Jagmandir was
constructed by Maharana Karan Singhji in 1622 AD and
was intended to be a pleasure palace for imperial
parties and functions.
It has served as a shelter for Moghul Emperor
Shahjahan when he was a prince against the wrath of
his father in the seventeenth century.
While standing at the shore of Lake Pichola you can
get a picturesque view of the sky touching majestic
palace with its ground rooted in the tranquil Lake. In
lake Pichola two gigantic monuments are being erected.
One is the Jag niwas or Lake Palace and the other is
Jag mandir. And on the shore of Lake Pichola stands
the grand legendary city Palace. You can get all the
details of Lake Palace and City Palace in our other
section.
You can visit the famous Jag Niwas Palace in Udaipur
by either hiring your own vehicle or by hiring the
local transport. If you are hiring the local auto
rickshaws or taxis be careful about the fare as most
of them are unmetered.
The tale goes on to say that Jagmandir was the
inspiration behind the world-renowned Taj Mahal, which
Shah Jahan built in the memory of his departed wife,
Mumtaz.
