Chhatra Sagar is located in the Thikana of Nimaj on
the Jaipur-Jodhpur highway. Chhatra Sagar is an old
Dam/Reservoir built by Late Thakur Chhatra Singh ji
and completed in 1890. The dam was built to harness
the monsoon rains in this dry desert estate and to
provide a reliable source of water in the dry
months.
By the early 20th century Chhatra Sagar had
developed into a beautifull lush oasis. Chhatra
Sagar became the venue of choice for the
entertainment of visiting dignitaries to nimaj.
Legendary sporting parties with high tea and exotic
dinners was common place. Today "Camp Chhatra Sagar"
has been recreated by the great grand children of
Thakur Chhatra Singh for visitng tourists and guest
to experience the life and times of a bygone era.
Accomodation at Chhatra Sagar is Luxury Tented
accomodation. Luxury tents have always been an
important part of Rajput lifestyle. Constant
campaigns in far flung lands meand long stays in
tents under inhospitable conditions. The tents were
a home away from home and developed into mobile
luxurious mini palaces. The tents at Chhatra Sagar
capture this romance. All tents feature modern
amenities with attached baths and running hot and
cold water, electricity etc. All tents have a
private sit out area with a view of the lake.
The nimaj family was famed for its traditional
culinary delicacies. At Chhatra Sagar the same age
old recipes are used to prepare traditional
delicacies from fresh farm produce which are a
delight to all food lovers.
Activities at Chhatra Sagar include bird watching (Chhatra
Sagar boasts of over 200 species of birds), Nature
walks, Jeep Safari, organised visit to the village
settlements etc.
Chhatra Sagar is closed
from April to end August.
Chhatra Sagar is located in Pali district on the
Jaipur-Jodhpur highway a distance of 95 kms from
Ajmer and 110 kms from Jodhpur.
For accommodation it has well appointed tents and
each tent has an attached bath with hot and cold
water, and its own private sit out overlooking the
lake .
